December Index Slide

The average new car dealer-to-dealer trade price continued to drop in the last month of 2022, coming down to $923 per unit, over invoice. This trade index price was based on 603 traded units throughout the month of December.

Trade Price Index

80% of the traded units that made up this index were Chevy, Jeep, Kia, Buick and Toyota models.

This was a -37% decrease under the previous month’s trade index price as national inventory levels raised another 9% month over month to 1.85M units on the ground by the end of the year.

On average, Toyota, Kia, and Chevy models are still commanding prices from selling dealers above the index. However, Buick and Jeep dealers are back to giving up holdback or half holdback in order to move their units to buying dealers around the country.
